The Approach to Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopy or arthroscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical procedure often used in orthopaedics. The procedure is performed on a joint in the body and includes an examination of the joint tissues and structures. The advantage of arthroscopic surgery is that the joint does not have to be fully opened. This helps to reduce recovery time and may increase the rate of success as the connective tissue is not subjected to additional trauma.

Surgeons use specialized instrumentation and can view the joint area on a video monitor. Surgeons can diagnose and repair torn joint tissue through an arthroscopic procedure. Arthroscopy is most commonly used for the knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle, foot, and hip.
