Cincinnati SportsMedicine and Orthopaedic Center was one of the first practices in Cincinnati to provide athletic trainer and physician on-the-field care services for local high schools. Our program began in 1975 and is now part of the Outreach Program with Mercy Health. Cincinnati SportsMedicine and Orthopaedic Center-Mercy Health physicians cover 10 local high schools and work closely with the Mercy Health athletic trainers assigned to these schools.
The athletic team cover provides a valuable experience for our sports medicine fellowship program. Each fellow is assigned to one of our local high schools and works closely with our athletic trainers. The fellows learn all aspects of sports medicine including taping and on-the-field injury evaluation. Following an injury, athletes follow-up with our fellows and staff physicians in clinic. The Mercy Health system provides coverage for 33 middle schools, junior high and high schools. This represents the largest coverage of high school teams and athletes in the Cincinnati area.
In addition to high school sports coverage, Cincinnati SportsMedicine and Orthopaedic Center-Mercy Health physicians also care for club, recreational, and professional athletes.
